Commercial Yacht Registration in Malta
Malta has one of the most highly developed and experienced environments for offering flexible options related to yachting needs. The initial registration of a commercial yacht in Malta is a straightforward procedure. A provisional registration of six months will be granted, during which time the owner is required to submit certain documentation. Any owners that are established either abroad or in Malta, in accordance with the Merchant Shipping Act, can register their yacht in Malta. That includes Swiss and EEA individuals and body corporates. Permanent registration will have to follow after the six-month provisional registration expires. Owners will have to submit documents and other requirements as necessary to get permanent registration, but once they do, the permanent registration can be renewed yearly by paying a fee.
It should be noted that the Merchant Shipping Directive defines a pleasure yacht as a yacht that is used for the private use of its owner and that is not engaging in trade. Also, it must be at least six meters in length.
